North region: Sea breezes and adventures in places not crowded
After exploring San Juan, rent a car and travel west to Manatí. Head to Mar Chiquita Beach, where two coral formations surround a shallow inlet creating the effect of a smaller beach into a larger one. The relaxing waves create the ideal beach conditions to relax, swim and snorkel without being overwhelmed by the waves. When it's time for lunch, your day at the beach will improve. There are food trucks serving island-style food at a campground located in the parking lot near the beach. Local delicacies worth trying include empanadas stuffed with picadillo and cold coconut(fresh, cold coconut water served directly in the coconut). Not far from Mar Chiquita, walk through Laguna Tortuguero, an ecologically diverse area that is one of the two natural lakes in Puerto Rico and also offers stunning ocean views.
Continue west until you reach Areciboto learn more about the natural charm of the area. Sign up for a caving expedition at Cueva Ventana. Here you will be guided through an intricate cave system filled with well-preserved stalagmites and stalactites. Visit the star attraction, Cueva Ventana, a huge cave that has a window-like opening with an impressive view. Before continuing west, take a short detour to Lago Dos Bocas. Rent a boat for a ride on the lake or take a ferry to one of the surrounding restaurants. End your day in a homey atmosphere, savor typical Puerto Rican dishes like fried green plantains, roast pork, stuffed potatoes, and rice and beans, along with a chilled bottle of Medalla (a mild local beer).
West Region: Surf Hub, Epic Lighthouses, and Beach Getaways
Just a 30-minute drive west of Arecibo is the island's west coast . This area, especially famous for its beaches, is a paradise for surfers. In addition to finding perfect waves, sightseeing opportunities abound. In Isabela, a quaint beachfront town, wander the streets visiting cafes and shops. While you relax in Isabela, don't miss the opportunity to ride a horse along the beach. From Isabela, head southwest to Cabo Rojo for postcard-worthy views. If you explore the grounds, you get a sense of the lighthouse's history among its captivating views of the beach. Venture along trails that lead from the Cabo Rojo Lighthouse to a white-sand beach called La Playuela. With your feet in the sand, you can relax or stroll along the beach. South region: The pearl of the south, hot springs and walks between islands
Travel an hour east and you'll arrive in Ponce , known for its splendid 19th-century architecture and the must-see Ponce Museum of Art. At the Museo Castillo Serrallés, tour the elegant estate of one of Puerto Rico's most famous families, the Serrallés, creators of Don Q rum. Learn how the sugar cane and rum industries intertwine as you explore the interior of the mansion, in addition to the patios full of tropical plants and unique architectural details. Allow time to visit the peaceful cross at the top of the hill, where you will have the pleasure of taking in the picturesque views of the city. When you leave, don't forget to buy a parting gift: a nice glass of Don Q rum.

Just a short boat ride down the coast from Ponce, embark on a day trip to Caja de Muertos Nature Reserve. Get on a catamaran or a boat and sail through the Caribbean Sea until you reach this little island paradise. Breathe easy as you enjoy some quality time on the beach or stroll along a nature trail that leads to the old lighthouse. Save time for snorkeling and keep an eye out for sea turtles. Before heading back north, take a break and visit Coamo, located east of Ponce. Located on the bank of a river, the Hot Springs of Coamo (Termas de Coamo) are known for their natural and rejuvenating thermal waters. Central Mountain Region: Coffee Farms, Mountain Zip Lines, and Lake Tours
From Coamo, head to the Cordillera Central, the beautiful, but less crowded, mountainous region of the island. These verdant mountain slopes are home to some of the best coffee-growing land in the Caribbean. For a little fun, take a coffee farm tour at one of the local plantations. As you tour hillside coffee orchards and learn the details of bean processing, you'll learn how the fresh mountain air and rich soil create an ideal environment for producing quality coffee.
This dense tropical landscape feels like something out of "Jurassic Park," making it the ideal home for one of Puerto Rico's most exciting attractions, the Toro Verde Nature Adventure Park in Orocovis. There are several zip lines and adventure courses here, but the most daring should try The Monster, one of the longest zip lines in the world, with 2.5 kilometers. After a safety briefing and a ride across a 150-foot-long suspension bridge to the launch pad, you'll be ready to fly (like Superman!) over and through the mountain canopy at speeds reaching 152 km/h Before returning to San Juan to finish your adventure, relax with a plate of mofongo and an island-inspired cocktail at the restaurant located on the Toro Verde premises.
